Messick. After the  current 50  stalls  get expandedpost  demolition  to  250  indoor  stalls onthe 57,216 square foot site, it will providea controlled  indoor space  to host  largerrodeos and livestock shows, said Messick.LIVESTOCK AND FUTURE HYBRID BUSSUPPORT: WEIL CONSTRUCTION’SSIMULTANEOUS GROUND BREAKINGBy Dane Vaughn, The Built Environment09/20/2023Copyright: Canva ProWeil Construction  project team  members breaking  ground  withCurry  County  officials  on  September  6th,  2023  at  the  CurryCounty  Event  Center  and  Fairgrounds.  Copyright:  Courtesy  ofWeil Construction

05BUILTENVIRONMENT“75%  of  our  events  year  round  areequestrian based events, or horse events. We do stall rentals per event so obviouslythe more equestrian events we have, themore  stall  revenue  we’ll  be  able  togenerate,” said Messick.Copyright: Canva Pro$6.5  million  was  allotted  to  the  countyper  the  Regional  Recreation  Centersgrant announced by the Governor of NewMexico  Michelle  Lujan  Grisham  inJanuary  2023.  Messick  said  the  rest  ofthe  funds  came  from  a  match  from  thecounty,  who  operates  the  facility,  andfrom the state of New Mexico.Weil  Construction  states  in  their  pressrelease  that they’re  “using almost  100%local subcontractors on this project.” Thesame however, isn’t stated for the $15.8million  maintenance  and  operationsfacility  being  built  for  the  North  CentralRegional Transit District (NCRTD).Communications  and  MarketingManager for NCRTD Richard L’Amie saidthe project will cost $17 million which is amillion  short  of  what  is  stated  in  WeilConstruction’s release.NCRTD Executive Director AnthonyMortillaro  said  in  an  email  to  The  BuiltEnvironment  that  the  $17  millionrepresents  the  total  budget  “whichincludes design, project management andother costs.”Weil Construction  project team  members breaking  ground  withNorth Central Regional Transit District officials on September 6th,2023  at  1320  Salazar  Drive  in  Taos  New  Mexico.  Copyright:Courtesy of Weil ConstructionIn July,  Taos  News  reported that  NCRTDwould  be  receiving  an  $8  million  grant, covering  the  second  phase  ofconstruction,  and  would  come  from  theFederal  Transit  Administration  to  fundexpansion  projects  and  make  greenerfleets.NCRTD  stated  in  its  own  press  releasethe following month that $6.5 million wasawarded  by  the  FTA  for  the  projectlocated  at  1320  Salazar  Drive  in  Taos,New  Mexico  87571.  Also,  there  was  arelated  $2.8  million  approved  in  bondfinancing  by  the  New  Mexico  FinanceAuthority.Taos  County’s  current  facility  will  soonbe  used  as  extra  storage  space  andaccording  to  NCRTD’s  release  is“outdated  and  is  too  small  toaccommodate  the  current  fleet.”  Therelease,  however,  does  not  include  anymention  of  making  the  future  fleet“greener”. 06BUILTENVIRONMENTThis reach for future sustainability can be traced from paraphrased statements madeby Mortillaro, who in the previously mentioned Taos News article, said that the rest ofthe $8 million grant “will go toward the formation of a hybrid diesel-electric bus fleet.”Mortillaro  also  was  also  paraphrased  in  saying  that  a  fully  electric  fleet  would  beunsuitable for  some  of  the  11  bus  routes  in  the district  and that  old buses  would beauctioned in the future. An NCRTD  fact sheet  both reverberates  Mortillaro  and the  district’s sustainabilitymission  statement  by  stating  that  the  district  intends  to  have  an  all-electric  fleet  by2045.Chris McMahan, Weil Construction’s director of business development and marketingsaid in an email to The Built Environment; “Our construction will provide rough-in forfuture electric vehicle charging stations.”The 18,000 square foot facility will service and store a portion of the 56 buses in thefleet  with two  repair  bays and  a fueling  station. Also,  there will  be employee  officespace, a lobby, locker rooms and a fitness area.According to Weil Construction, the transit facility is estimated for completion in thethe summer of 2025.Renderings of the North Central Regional Transit Distric’s new maintenance and operations facility.Copyright: Courtesy of Huitt Zollars

26ABC NEW MEXICO EVENT CALENDAROCTOBER - DECEMBER 2023ABC: MONTHLYCONSTRUCTIONINPUT PRICESINCREASED 1.5% INAUGUSTWASHINGTON, Sept. 14—Construction inputprices rose 1.5% in August compared to theprevious month, according to an AssociatedBuilders and Contractors analysis of U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Indexdata released today. Nonresidentialconstruction input prices also increased 1.5%for the month, but are up just 0.2% from ayear ago.Rising energy prices drove overall priceincreases in August. Crude petroleum priceswere up 8.9% and unprocessed energymaterials prices rose 5.4% last month. “Anyone who thought that excess inflationwould simply go away later this year has beenrudely awakened this week,” said ABC ChiefEconomist Anirban Basu. “Yesterday’sconsumer price data and today’s PPI releaseindicate that price growth continues to beproblematic. While energy prices will grabheadlines, items like concrete and switchgearalso exhibited inflationary tendencies inAugust.“There are many implications for constructioncontractors, including the fact that persistentlyelevated inflation will keep interest rateshigher for longer,” said Basu. “ABC has beenpredicting this for months. With labor costsstill rising, consumers spending aggressively,oil-producing nations limiting output andglobal supply chains being reorganized, thereis reason to believe that future readings willalso demonstrate excess inflation is here tostay.”CONTINUE READING >FRIDAY OCTOBER 13TH, 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM - CLICK HERECHILI COOK OFF AND CAR SHOWTHURSDAY OCTOBER 26TH, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM - CLICK HEREWEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 22ND, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM - CLICK HERENOVEMBER MEMBER LUNCHEONTHURSDAY DECEMBER 14TH, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM - CLICK HEREANNUAL AWARDS LUNCHEONEXCELLENCE IN CONSTRUCTIONAWARDSFRIDAY OCTOBER 19TH, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM - CLICK HEREABC STRATEGIC PLANNINGSESSIONTUESDAY NOVEMBER 14TH, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM - CLICK HEREAPPRENTICE APPRECIATION OPENHOUSEBUILTENVIRONMENT

Construction site theft is big business, estimates of the cost of theft of constructionequipment vary from about $300 million to$1 billion, with most estimates in the rangeof $400 million, according to the NationalEquipment Register’s 2016 Theft Report.Targets of theft range from lumber and scrapmetal, to high-dollar excavators and cranes. Some of the theft is the result of opportunity— a gate left unlocked, or keys left in a skidloader. Another theft is the result oforganized gangs targeting constructionequipment for overseas shipment, LoJackreports. On top of the cost of property losses, theftimpacts construction projects with delays, downtime for skilled equipment operators, increased insurance premiums and evencancellation of insurance in some cases.Given the broad range of risks andperpetrators, construction site theft may beseen as a cost of doing business. But itdoesn’t have to be that way.CONTINUE READING >TYPES OFCONSTRUCTIONSITE THEFT & HOWTO PREVENT THEMBY ECAM SECURECopyright: Canva Pro127BUILTENVIRONMENTTHEFT & SECURITYNEW MEXICO
