According to the AHS, asadoption has become more popular withthe public, shelters have been “able togain more funding,” which, in turn, has ledto the building of larger facilities and anability to take care of cats and dogs on alonger-term basis.Recently released figures from the BestFriends Animal Society show that the no-kill shelter movement is largely a state-by-state story. While 15 out of 15 -shelters in New Hampshire are nowclassified as no-kill, figures show that 156out of 366 shelters in Texas could be soclassified. In New Mexico 17 out of 44 shelters arenow defined as no-kill. -Center at 1700 Lincoln Street has longstood out on the city’s skyline owing tothe upper portion of the building havingthe appearance of an old-fashioned cashregister. The 52-floor structure, which in fact ispopularly known as the Cash RegisterBuilding, was designed by renownedarchitect Philip Johnson, and has beenthe home to any number of law, realestate, and government offices throughthe years.Designated as a Class A office tower, theWells Fargo Center has previouslyattracted tenants due to its centraldowntown location, as well as offeringsuch amenities as a 7,900-square-footfitness center, along with a conferencecenter and lounge.Despite those features, the building’sfinancial picture in recent weeks hasbeen uncertain with reports indicatingthat Brookfield Properties, whichpurchased the building in late 2020, hasdefaulted on a loan that matured late lastyear. That default may now see thebuilding heading for foreclosure.Losing a number of tenants since theCovid year of 2020, the structure hasseen its value drop by 35%, with theworth of the building declining from $475million four years ago to $287 milliontoday. While the fate of the Wells Fargo Centerremains unknown, Brookfield last weekreached a loan-modification agreementfor another Denver building it owns: the56-story Republic Plaza. That building, located at 370 17th Street, is the tallestbuilding in the Mile High City.75BUILTENVIRONMENTCopyright: Canva Pro

Thatfigure was down to 32% during GeorgeW. Bush’s last final twelve months aspresident and is now at an all-time low of26%.The Gallup narrative suggests onepositive take on the country’s ongoingnegative feelings: “None of the 15institutions rated annually managed torepair their images, with many remainingat or near their all-time low,” it says of themost recent survey. On the other hand, “the good news is thatnone worsened significantly.”should and what shouldn’t be a part ofthe massive annual legislation. The measure, which every year isroutinely passed by Congress, providesthe working budget for the Departmentof Defense, and pays for everything fromthe salaries of members of the military toresearch and development projects andoperations and maintenance. For the nation’s builders, the measure isespecially important, providing fundingfor the construction of hundreds offacilities on bases across the country.BUILTENVIRONMENTA final vote on the National DefenseAuthorization Act is not expected to betaken in the House of Representativesuntil next week as members debate what DEFENSEAUTHORIZATIONLEGISLATION FUNDINGA MULTITUDE OFCONSTRUCTIONPROJECTS MAY BEDELAYED BYAMENDMENTSBy Garry Boulard, Construction Reporter07/13/2023Copyright: Canva ProThis fiscal year’s version of the legislationincludes $19 billion for militaryconstruction, including $3.8 billion tocover what are regarded as the“unbudgeted costs” of inflation in militaryconstruction projects. The projects include the building offamily housing on bases nationally andaround the world. The proposed budget also includes, inresponse to increased rents everywhere,an additional $500 million in housingallowances for soldiers and their families. It takes a lot of time towork through it all.”Either way, notes the publication Roll Call, a heated House debate over the abortionand transition issues “could gridlock theentire appropriations process.”BUILTENVIRONMENTThe Biden administration has opened twonew competitive grant programs forfinancial firms to receive up to $20 billionto lend to clean energy projects aroundthe country. The programs, launched on July 14, areparts of the $27-billion Greenhouse GasReduction Fund, a major component oflast year's Inflation Reduction Act, alsoknown as the Climate Act. When most people think of identity theft, they imagine an individual victim’s SocialSecurity or credit card number being stolen. However, identity theft does not just affectindividuals. Business identity theft, alsoknown as corporate or commercial identitytheft, occurs when criminals pose as owners, officers, or employees of a business toillegally transact business and establish linesof credit with banks and vendors. It is theunauthorized use of a business name oridentity for financial gain. It has muchgreater complexities than personal identitytheft and there are numerous ways tocommit this fraud.Identity thieves commit fraud by gainingaccess to business’ bank accounts and creditcards or by stealing sensitive companyinformation, such as the tax identificationnumber (TIN) and the owners’ personalinformation. The thieves open up lines ofcredit or get business loans based on thebusiness’ identity and creditworthiness.Typically, thieves cash out quickly and gounnoticed until the bills and collectionnotices arrive at the door of the victimizedbusiness, leaving behind debt, damagedcredit, and a destroyed reputation.CONTINUE READING >BUSINESS IDENTITYTHEFT – WHAT IS IT ANDHOW TO PROTECT YOURBUSINESSBY MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF ATTORNEY GENERALCopyright: Canva Pro 116BUILTENVIRONMENTTHEFT & SECURITYNEW MEXICO
